Don't Change

Hi everyone,

Right now, there are a lot of athletes getting into diet mode for their bodybuilding contests. I start my contest prep soon too and I wanted to touch on a very important thing that is so crucial to your success as a competitor.

This is....

Do not change who you are when you are getting ready for your contest! What do I mean by this? Well, I have had the luxury of taking the 2009 season off to make improvements to my physique and I witnessed a lot of common mistakes with people when they are in pre-contest mode. I noticed that sometimes there is a major shift in a person's personality during their contest prep. It would seem as though sometimes we feel sorry for ourselves, or angry or sad because we have to diet. It really does not have to be this way.

I will confess that I have been one to display this sort of behavior in the past. I would walk around feeling sorry for myself and be very moody. I would shut out the people around me. I would avoid family or social functions or not help friends out all because I was getting ready for a contest. Basically, I was putting my life on hold and not being the best person I can be just for a bodybuilding contest.

We make a choice to do this sport and we also have a choice of how we feel and behave. So, why not choose to feel good? Why not choose to be the best ambassador to the sport of bodybuilding that you can be? It is up to us to be good role models for our sport. You are supposed to enjoy the journey and if you are not then you need to ask yourself why you are doing this.

There are ways to make yourself feel better when preparing for a show....(note: these tips can be used even when you are not in contest mode)

- Stay calm in any situation. Take a deep breath and relax!
- Meditate (this is very important).
- Have fun and laugh a lot.
- Read motivational books.
- Find a personal development program - (like Six Minutes To Success)
- Spend quality time with the people who are close to you in your life.
- Leave an impression of increase with everyone you meet.

Until next time!

Be the best you can be.
